Terrey Hills is the semi-rural edge of the Beaches, with acreage homes, nurseries, equestrian properties and small businesses along Mona Vale Road, surrounded by Ku-ring-gai Chase and Garigal national parks. Drainage on a large rural block is a different job from a suburban house. Beaches Blocked Drains is a referral service. We connect you with licensed local drain plumbers who service Terrey Hills.
What is different about Terrey Hills drains
Not every property is on the sewer. Some Terrey Hills properties are connected to Sydney Water's sewer, and some still rely on an on-site system such as a septic tank or an aerated wastewater treatment system. If your property has an on-site system, a slow or backed-up drain may be the system rather than a blockage. Tell us which you have when you enquire, so you are matched with a plumber who works on them.
Long runs. On acreage, the sewer or on-site line from the house can run a long way, with more joints and more trees along the route. Stormwater may discharge to a dam, swale or absorption trench rather than a street kerb.
Big trees and bush. Large eucalypts on the property and the national park edges supply roots and leaf litter in quantity.
How it gets fixed
A CCTV drain camera with a locator is especially useful on acreage, where the line may not run where anyone expects. Jet blasting clears roots and silt along long runs. If a section is broken, pipe relining can repair it, or it may make more sense to dig and replace a shallow line under open ground.
What it costs
A standard clear typically runs $150 to $400. Long runs and difficult access push camera and jetting work toward the upper end of $350 to $900. Work on on-site systems is priced separately by the plumber. You get a quote before work starts.
Frequently asked questions
How do I know if my property is on the sewer?
Your rates notice or Sydney Water account usually shows whether you pay sewer charges. If there is a septic tank or treatment system on site, you are likely not connected.
Our septic system is backing up. Is that a blocked drain?
It could be the line from the house or the system itself. Mention the system when you enquire so the right specialist is matched to the job.
Is digging cheaper than relining on acreage?
Sometimes. On open ground with a shallow pipe, excavation can be the cheaper option. The camera footage helps decide.
