What a blocked drain usually costs
Most standard blockages on the Northern Beaches clear for between $150 and $400. If tree roots are involved, or the plumber needs a CCTV camera to find the problem, expect $350 to $900 for the camera inspection and jet blasting together. A collapsed or root-broken pipe that needs relining is a bigger job, usually $3,000 and up. The full cost guide breaks down every scenario.
Why drains block on the Beaches
The Northern Beaches throws three different problems at drains. Along the coastal strip from Manly to Palm Beach, sand gets into gullies, showers and stormwater pits, and salt air ages old metal fittings. Up on the plateau suburbs like Frenchs Forest, Belrose and Collaroy Plateau, clay-heavy soils swell and shrink with the weather and pull old pipe joints apart. And almost everywhere, the spotted gums, figs and Norfolk pines that make the Beaches what it is send roots into any clay sewer joint they can find.
Low-lying pockets around Narrabeen Lagoon, Manly Lagoon and Dee Why Lagoon add a fourth: high groundwater and heavy rain that test stormwater systems hard. A licensed drain plumber clears the blockage, then tells you honestly whether it was a one-off or whether the pipe itself needs attention.
